Private Orientation Weekend for 3 Days, 3 Nights
A large Bay Area company called us for help. They had an internal, international transfer moving to California and needed to create a Bay Area orientation to acclimate the arriving family, both to lower the stresses of the international move and to show the family they truly cared about their well-being.
The company’s HR department had a clever idea: to introduce the family to the best sights of the Bay Area on their arrival with a Luxury San Francisco Tour—a few days of exploring the best parts of their new city while avoiding the negative ones.
In this case, the family transferred from Singapore and consisted of a mother, daughter, son and father, who was promoted to a new executive position. Moving to the Bay Area, their first two weeks were for a company orientation, followed by the family beginning their new life in America.
The Singaporean family landed in the late afternoon and checked into their San Jose hotel, ready for a peaceful night’s sleep before their Private San Francisco Tour in the morning.
The family’s day began with a seamless pickup from their front door in Silicon Valley, on their way to seeing the best parts of San Francisco. The four California newbies obviously didn’t know what to expect in the city—other than information gathered from some accurate and incredibly inaccurate internet articles. Our private guide welcomed them and began by explaining California’s unique story, sharing historical highlights, interesting anecdotes and more as the group sat back and relaxed, listening in their leather seats in luxury.
Our first stop was the top of Nob Hill, a great way to help the folks understand San Francisco’s layout with stunning bay views all around.
After the family’s classic San Francisco lunch, it was now time to check out the best views of the Golden Gate Bridge, followed by exploring more neighborhoods of interest, such as Pacific Heights and the Presidio—locations not commonly seen or experienced by first-time visitors. Our private guides also diplomatically answered any questions the family had, doing our best to leave a positive impression while simultaneously explaining, within reason, California’s pros and cons.
On our second day, with the newcomers still recovering from jet lag, we departed for Monterey Bay, specifically for whale watching, so the family could get up close to California’s unique and captivating wildlife. Our private guide again filled them in on the area as we cruised along the Pacific Coast Highway, the ocean waves breaking on the misty shoreline below. The family now understood that all they had to do was show up on time. They were in good hands for seeing and experiencing the best of California.
After lunch and a morning spent on the open water, it was time for the family to slow down with an easy hike among California’s iconic redwoods. And instead of Muir Woods National Monument, which at times can feel crowded and overbearing, we ventured to a spot with thinner crowds, where the legendary redwoods are older and larger. For context, some of these giants are more than 2,000 years old—so large you can actually step inside their hollowed trunks. And the children did.
Day 3 was now our favorite sightseeing location, and the spot the family was most excited about, Yosemite National Park. Having seen photos and heard stories of the park their entire lives, Dad and Mom were excited and very eager to show their children the famous landscape, a way for them to learn about America’s nature firsthand with their feet on the trail.
We began our drive across California in our luxurious Mercedes SUV, taking in the state’s diversity as we sipped hot coffee, the children resting comfortably in the back.
The afternoon was now the time for the family to experience Yosemite in depth. Our private guides shared the park’s history, pointed out landmarks such as Half Dome and the daring rock climbers on El Capitán, followed by a secluded picnic lunch for the family along the Merced River, away from the crowds.
The family then chose an afternoon hike with a trail paired to their skill level, while our private guide revealed the stories and sights only Yosemite regulars know.
