Private Group Getaway for 3 Days, 2 Nights
A global software company held its annual sales kickoff in California, a week when its top sales team flew in from all over the world to align with the company’s new fiscal objectives, vision and strategy over the next 12 months. Coming from America, the UK and as far away as Australia, the team gathered in Walnut Creek, looking forward to their yearly in-person meetup.
In celebration of their banner growth year, the company reserved a Private Napa Valley Weekend for after their kickoff week to reward the team for their hard work, offering a great experience in California’s famous wine country.
The company began with their in-house meetings, as the VP of sales took their team through new strategies, processes and sales techniques while staying focused on the kickoff session. But once their week was complete, it was time for them to let loose and see the best of Napa Valley in a simple, classy and informative way. For many of them, it was their first time in California, so rather than staying in Walnut Creek, we packed our bags for the sights and sounds of wine country.
The day began when we met the group at their hotel, setting off for Napa Valley. Along the way, we shared insights about California and its diverse wine regions, offering an easy-to-understand overview of where we were and what made Napa Valley unique. Our first stop, a thoughtfully selected Sonoma winery, was chosen to give the group a chance to ease into wine tasting for their weekend, followed by lunch in historic Sonoma Plaza.
In Napa Valley, we always like to answer the two questions: “Where am I?” and “Why does it matter?”—offering a full view of wine tasting for one’s senses. That, combined with the great views of the rows of vineyards (in our opinion), really brings Napa to life.
That evening, after the group settled comfortably into their resort, we set off for our Luxury Napa Vineyard Dinner, where unbeknownst to the team, their C-suite was set to join them for a surprise appearance. For their global team of 300 staff, keeping a strong sense of human connection in the company was important.
On Day 2, we set out in the late morning, allowing team members to sleep in, enjoy a round of golf or recharge with a soothing spa massage. At noon, we boarded our luxury transportation and headed deeper into Napa Valley. Our first stop? A contemporary winery with a private tasting room reserved exclusively for the team, giving guests a chance to connect on the sunshine patio, away from their studying, quotas and sales calls.
We consider Napa Valley a collection of towns rather than a single destination, and we like for guests to understand the same. To highlight this, we stopped in St. Helena—a small, charming town where the group could pop into local shops, sample chocolate-covered strawberries or even grab a delicious cheeseburger. Not every Napa Valley experience is about exclusive tastings or cult wines 24-7; oftentimes, it’s about creating space for people to simply enjoy being together.
After sipping the best wines in California’s wine country, it was now time to return to San Francisco for each team member’s eventual flight home. But before then, a stop in Muir Woods for the contemplation of nature, and the relaxation it brings, was in order. Truly, the old-growth redwoods, with their towering canopies, create a lasting impression for any person who visits the national monument.
The team wandered along the shaded trails at their own pace, spotted deer and soaked in the stillness of the famous forest, a reflective end to their private Napa Valley weekend of wine tasting.
Finally, as a cherry on top for their Luxury Napa Valley Offsite, we privately showed and explained the best of San Francisco to the team on our way into the city, seeing and exploring famous landmarks such as Alamo Square, Fisherman’s Wharf and the Golden Gate Bridge. Many were pleasantly surprised by how safe, vibrant and stylish San Francisco felt—especially compared to what they had recently seen or heard about the city online.
